Why he might be annoying:

He left Procol Harum because he had more songs in his head than the band could accommodate.
He's been through several line-up changes, including two different 1981 bands (Truce & BLT) with Cream bassist Jack Bruce.
When he tried in the '80s to sound more pop flavored, he angered hard core fans and album sales nosedived.
35 years of solo efforts have not yielded one Top 40 hit.

Why he might not be annoying:

His music heroes are all blues musicians - Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and his favorite, B.B. King.
He has been compared favorably to another power trio, The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Four of his 1970s albums have been certified gold.
He's collaborated on three Bryan Ferry Band albums.
James Dewar, his lead singer and bassist on his successful '70s albums, died of a massive stroke in 2002 at age 59.
When told Europe is the place for classic rockers and blues players to tour these days, he said, 'The States still has the best audiences by far for me.
