Baseball Player

The Resume

    (January 21, 1959-December 8, 2006)
Born in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic
Died in Santo Dominigo, Dominican Republic
Birth name was José Altagracia González Uribe
Shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals (1984), San Francisco Giants (1985-92) and the Houston Astros (1993)

Why he might be annoying:

He was listed in baseball registers by his maternal surname, due to the fact scouts were unfamiliar with Spanish naming customs.
He said his decision to legally change it stemmed from the fact there were ‘too many Gonzálezes in baseball.’
Chris Berman often referred to him as ‘José 'Game Winning' Uribe,’ which was irrelevant since he was a light hitter.
He was injury prone during his final seasons with the Giants, which caused him to lose his starting spot to Royce Clayton.
His 1990 Fleer baseball card saw an exorbitant price hike on eBay 14 years after his death, with some collectors claiming it was rare, when in fact it was a common produced card (2018).

Why he might not be annoying:

He signed with the Yankees as an undrafted free agent in 1977.
He was traded to San Francisco in the deal that brought Jack Clark to the Cardinals.
Due to the fact he changed his surname after the trade, he jokingly was dubbed ‘The Ultimate Player To Be Named Later’ by baseball pundits.
He established himself as a mainstay in the Giants middle infield during the 1980’s.
He was a fan favorite in San Francisco.
He lost his first wife weeks after she gave birth to the couple’s third child.
