Why she might be annoying:

    She auditioned for the part of Mammy in Gone with the Wind.
    Eleanor Roosevelt even wrote David O. Selznick to ask that she be given the part (it eventually went to Hattie McDaniel).
    She liked to be called 'SASOCPA,' or the 'Self-Appointed-Secretary-On-Colored-People’s-Affairs.'
    Her later years are not well documented.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was the daughter of sharecroppers.
    Her husband worked as FDR’s personal valet for many years.
    She spoke out in favor of workers' rights.
    She campaigned and gave speeches in support of President Roosevelt’s re-elections.
    She also was reported to have helped FDR write some of his own speeches.
    She regularly relayed reports from the black community about discrimination in the New Deal programs, especially the Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps.
    She was present when FDR died in Warm Springs, Georgia. Her own husband died a year later.
