    Born in Vigevano, Lombardy, Italy
    Ruled Milan as regent (1481-94) and duke (1494-98)

Why he might be annoying:

    He fathered children with at least three of his mistresses.
    There were riots over the heavy taxes he imposed on Milan.
    He ordered the burning of Jewish holy books (1488).
    His attempts to play the French King and Holy Roman Emperor off each other backfired badly, with France conquering Milan (1499).

Why he might not be annoying:

    Although he was not expected to rule Milan, his mother prudently had him trained in governance and warfare.
    He was a patron of Leonardo da Vinci and architect Donato Bramante.
    During an attempt to reconquer Milan, he was betrayed to the French by one of his Swiss mercenaries (1500) and spent the rest of his life in an underground dungeon.
