Why he might be annoying:

    He got his first major political office, as Treasurer of the Chamber, through the influence of his brother, who was Lord Chamberlain (1720).
    The Earl of Chesterfield said, 'He was a very inelegant speaker in Parliament.'
    Encyclopedia Britannica described him as 'a somewhat colorless politician.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He volunteered for the army during a Jacobite rebellion (1715).
    He was considered a man of integrity; for example, he was one of the few people appointed Paymaster of the Army (1731) not to use the position to enrich himself.
    He consolidated the national debt and reduced the interest payments (1749).
    He cut the land tax in half (1752).
