Why they might be annoying:

Their major hits were so irresistibly catchy that they would get stuck in people's heads for weeks.
    They had mile-high afros.
They wore multi-colored pajama-like outfits, complete with brightly-colored cummerbunds and big white daisy prints.
All of their songs were written by other people.
Eighty percent of their material were covers.
Jackie and Jermaine slept with their fans, even after they got married.
    Jermaine married their boss' daughter.
Jermaine often had sex with anonymous groupies in hotel rooms that he shared with his younger brothers, Marlon and Michael.
At 14, Michael Jackson was deemed 'too old' to be the designated cute one. Thus, they recruited youngest brother, 11-year-old Randy.
    Jacksonmania rivaled Beatlemania in craziness.
    Their fans were public menaces.
Groupies would threaten bodyguards and employees with weapons in efforts to gain access to the brothers.
Many of their concerts turned into near-riots.
When they were mobbed in a department store, hysterical fans accidentally broke a large window pane causing the glass to fall on a girl and slit her throat.
The schools they went to would periodically receive death threats against the brothers.
They played up a false Brady Bunch-like image.
They let their untalented older sister sing with them in their Las Vegas shows.
They inspired many of today's boy bands.
In 1997, Gordon Keith of Steeltown Records filed suit against the Jackson 5 for improperly crediting themselves for 2 songs on their 1996 album 'Pre-History: The Lost Steeltown Recordings.' The Jackson 5 maintained that their original name was 'Ripples & Waves + Michael Jackson,' but the 2 songs in question were actually recorded by a different 'Ripples & Waves' band.

Why they might not be annoying:

At the time, Michael Jackson was still black and it was acceptable for him to play with little boys.
They were forced into show business by their domineering, abusive father.
Papa Joe Jackson would beat his sons if they sang or danced incorrectly.
As young boys, they were made to open for strippers in nightclubs.
They were one of the first black teen idols.
They had the first black animated series.
They were the first recording artists to ever have their first 4 singles go to number 1.
Their fourth no. 1 hit, 'I'll Be There,' was the biggest-selling single in Motown history until Boyz II Men broke the record over 20 years later.
They were forced to lie about Diana Ross having discovered them and about their ages.
They were non-threatening and always made people happy.
Despite most of their hits being bubble gum pop, they recorded many poignant R&B songs on their albums.
They are endlessly imitated, but never duplicated (The Osmonds, the Sylvers, New Edition, New Kids On The Block, NSync, etc.).
Motown continues to make money off the Jackson 5, more than 30 years after the group left the company. Every few years, they dip into their vaults and release rare recordings.
