Why they might be annoying:

They were all hippies that heavily abused drugs and alcohol.
Michelle Phillips and John Phillips were married after he left his wife and two children for her.
Michelle Phillips was 16 and John Phillips was 25 when he began robbing the cradle.
The death of John Phillips and Mama Cass Elliot were both heart related from years of drug and alcohol abuse.
They all lived in Los Angeles for awhile.
Michelle, John and Denny tried LSD and their acid trip kicked in when Mama Cass came by, dressed flamboyantly.
Some band members had a problem with Mama Cass joining the band, judging on her appearance rather than talent.
Mama Cass had a crush on Denny and followed him to the Virgin Islands when he went with Michelle and John.
She had a hard time dealing with Michelle flirting with Denny, but continued to try to become a band member while there.
It is rumored that a lead pipe hit Mama Cass in the head and the next day she was able to achieve the high note that impressed other band mates.
Drugs and tension eventually led to the band splitting and solo acts emerging amongst them.

Why they might not be annoying:

They ranked #23 on VH1's Top 100 Women of Rock 'n Roll.
They won a Grammy for best contemporary group performance (1966).
They were inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame.
Shania Twain was their presenter when they were inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame.
While at the Virgin Islands, the band caved and let Mama Cass Elliot join.
Their song 'California Dreamin' is credited for drawing a lot of tourism to California.
