Why he might be annoying:

    He has cast his two kids in multiple projects of his.
    He makes cameo appearances in most of his films.
    He made his acting debut was in Zombie Nightmare (which would later be featured on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000).
    He remade the 1950 classic Cheaper by the Dozen as a Brady Bunch knockoff with no resemblance to the original book or film.
    He didn't direct the Cheaper sequel - and outsourced it to Adam Shankman - but some (or Roger Ebert anyway) thought Shankman did a better job.
    At some points in his filmography, he's really been just a poor man's Judd Apatow (working with Owen Wilson a lot, directing sex comedies with gross-out gags and crude humor, etc.).

    He made his early television directorial bones on episodes of 90s kids favorites 'Animorphs' and The Secret World of Alex Mack (both Nickelodeon ) and The Famous Jett Jackson (Disney Channel).
    His first hit comedy came in the form of Big Fat Liar, which was met was almost universal critical acclaim (deemed more atypical because it was a teen comedy with ties to Nickelodeon).
    His first 'Night of the Museum' movie was one of the highest grossing films of 2006.
    He produced Last Man Standing during its first and original run on ABC.
    His film 'Arrival' was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and at the BAFTAs.
    He's a film director who has managed to expand and have his hands in multiple different pots (producing films, becoming a major force in television and on Netflix, moving seamlessly between genres, etc.).
