The Resume

    (August 26, 1972- )
    Born in Houston, Texas
    Kimberly Burrell
    Gospel, Jazz, and R&B performer
Performed on the soundtrack for the movie, 'Hidden Figures' (2016)
Released albums 'Try Me Again,' 'Everlasting Life,' 'No Ways Tired,' 'The Love Album,' 'A Different Place,' and 'Live in Miami'
Recorded 'Sweeter,' 'Special Place,' 'Don't Count Me Out,' 'I See a Victory,' 'I Pray on Christmas,' 'All These People,' 'No Ways Tired,' 'My Faith Looks Up To Thee,' 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus,' 'O Lamb Of God' and 'I Surrender All'
Founded the Love & Liberty Fellowship Pentecostal Overcoming Holy Church, in 2010
Came under fire after the release of a video showing her delivering a sermon condemning homosexuality as 'perverted,' resulted in her being disinvited from a scheduled promotional appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (Jan. 2017)

Why she might be annoying:

She looks like Raj Thomas' mom on What's Happening!
She was filmed characterizing gays as 'sinful,' describing the act of gay sex in extremely explicit terms.
She was filmed yelling that the public had allowed themselves to be 'deceived by the perverted homosexual spirit.'
She was also caught implying that AIDS was a punishment for homosexuality (making reference to the disgraced Pastor Eddie Long - who was rumored to have died from the illness).
The exposure of the footage resulted in her not only being disinvited from an appearance with Pharrell Williams on 'Ellen,' but also her radio talk show, 'Bridging the Gap,' being pulled off the air by Texas Southern University.
She was also removed as an honoree by the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music event, as a result.
She railed against homosexuals as perverted but had no issue sharing a stage and collaborating with the openly gay Frank Ocean that same year.
She tried to backtrack on the comments during a Facebook Live video, claiming to have been taken out of context and asserting that she was speaking of 'S-I-N' and that she never made literal mention of the LGBT community (you'd have to be Olaf to take in a snow job that heavy).

Why she might not be annoying:

    Her father was a pastor.
She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album (2011).
'Love Album' was #5 on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart, in its first week (2011).
'Love Album' was the #2 most downloaded Gospel album on iTunes (2011).
She won the Dove Award for Urban Recorded Song of the Year, for her single 'Sweeter' (2012).
She was named Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year for 2011.
She has collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Harry Connick, Jr., Sam Smith, and Amy Winehouse.
She was a close friend with both Whitney Houston and her daughter Bobbi Kristina, not only collaborating with Houston but performing 'A Change is Gonna Come' at her 2012 funeral service.
Chaka Khan called her 'one of the most interesting voices I've heard in a long while.'
She was subjected to racially-charged harassment from white gay men on social media at the height of the controversy.
Its hard not to notice a double standard in that Alec Baldwin - who actually directed the slur 'cock-sucking faggot' at a person - continued to thrive in Hollywood after his homophobic rant (but Burrell, a black woman, gets put out to pasture).
