Entrepreneur

The Resume

    (August 13, 1972- )
CEO of Under Armour, founded in 1996
Played football for the University of Maryland

Why he might be annoying:

    His clothing is expensive.
It has been described as ‘leotards for men.'
He is from an upper-middle class family.
He went to an elite Catholic high school in Washington, DC (St. John's College High School).
The name of his company came about when one of his friends was chiding him about ‘How is that t-shirt company of yours? What the hell do you call it? Under Armour or something?'
The first time Under Armour designed women's apparel, the quality and fit were awful. He pulled them at the last minute, taking a $600,000 hit.

Why he might not be annoying:

He went from being a walk-on at Maryland to becoming a starter and eventually a team captain.
He has an incredible drive and work ethic.
In tribute to his alma mater, he uses Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen in commercials and the colors advertised are always red, white, and black.
He began with little money to advertise, so he literally did it locker to locker, telling players ‘If you like it, give one to the guy with the locker next to you.'
He pursued the prototype relentlessly until he had the fabric and quality he wanted.
‘We must protect this house' has become a catch-phrase and rallying cry for teams playing at home.
He said about his $600,000 gaffe, ‘Money can be replaced, but I never would have forgiven myself if I had let a sub par product line go out the door with the Under Armour logo on it.'
Under Armour was ranked #2 on Inc. Magazine's Inc. 500 of the fastest growing privately owned companies.
