Why he might be annoying:

    He was a communist.
    He persecuted Albanians who practice religion, particularly Muslims and Roman Catholics, by declaring Albania an officially atheist state.
    He forced Albanians to eat food their religion forbade them to eat, such as pork for Muslims, even during holy periods, such as Ramadan.
    He is highly xenophobic, even toward the Soviet Union.
    His economic policies turned Albania into the poorest country in Europe during the 1970's.
    As part of his state atheism policy, he renamed towns, cities, and even personal names with religious meanings.
    He outlawed Greek names.
    He persecuted landowners, clan leaders, religious figures, dissidents, peasants who denounced collectivization, and rebellious party members.
    He was a strong admirer of Josef Stalin.
    His naming policies extended up to the point that a book, 'Dictionary of People's Names,' which contained 3,000 approved, secular names, was published (1982).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He kept Albania independent from the Soviet Union's control and influence.
    He built lots of bunkers in Albania in case of a possible invasion.
    He knew that association of religion with ethnicity could threaten Albania's unity, so he took steps combating it.
    His uncle, Hysen, fought for Albania's independence.
    He fought against Italian occupation of Albania during World War II.
    He was fired from his teaching job when he refused to join the Albanian Fascist Party (1939).
    He introduced industry to Albania.
    He brought electricity to rural areas of Albania.
    He eliminated epidemics and illiteracy in Albania.
    He opposed Mao's personality cult.
    He was the second longest-ruling Communist ruler in the world.
    He improved women's rights in Albania.
    His suffered from a heart attack (1973), diabetes (1980) and cerebral ischemia (1983).
