Why he might be annoying:

He was nicknamed Tintoretto ('the little dyer') from his father's career dyeing silk.
In his youth, he was known as Jacopo Robusti (from his father's robust defense of Padua in the Cambrai War), which was listed as his birth name for centuries.
His real (we think) birth name of Jacopo Cumin was uncovered by art historians in the 21st century.
He had a daughter out of wedlock.
A sign over his studio boasted, 'The drawing of Michelangelo and the color of Titian.'
He was uneven, with one critic saying that in many paintings Tintoretto was equal to Titian, in others inferior to Tintoretto.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a pupil of Titian for ten days before being sent home, reportedly due to the older artist's jealousy.
After being mocked by Titian's friend, author Pietro Aretino, he offered to paint Aretino's portrait; when Aretino showed up for his sitting, Tintoretto measured his height using a pistol, a less-than-subtle (but effective) hint to the writer.
He was generous in giving alms to the poor.
His 'Paradise,' at 74 feet by 30 feet, was the largest painting done on canvas.
He was a precursor of Baroque art in his dramatic use of lighting.
