The Resume

    (September 15, 1957- )
    Born in Warsaw, Poland
    Polish film director and documentarian
Wrote and directed the films ‘Cold War,’ ‘Ida,’ ‘The Woman in the Fifth,’ ‘My Summer of Love,’ and ‘Last Resort’

Why he might be annoying:

His surname is hard to spell and pronounce.
His most original and successful documentary film ‘Serbian Epics’ was met with controversy at the time of its release.
Most of his films are dark and bleak.
He said that he considers himself to be Catholic, but he finds the Catholic Church in England is easier to grow in faith than that in his native Poland.
Despite getting a Best Director nomination for ‘Cold War’ at the 2019 Oscars, his film was not nominated for Best Picture.
Therefore, he became the second director to earn a Best Director nomination for a film not nominated for Best Picture since the expansion of the latter category’s nomination slots in 2010 (Bennett Miller was the first director to earn this distinction).

Why he might not be annoying:

    His grandfather died in Auschwitz.
He studied literature and philosophy at Oxford University.
His first documentary ‘From Moscow to Pietushki with Benny Yerofeyev‘ won an Emmy.
His first wife died from a serious illness in 2006.
His film ‘Ida’ became the first Polish film to win Best International Film at the Oscars in 2015.
He served as a grand jury member for the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
