The Resume

    (September 10, 1925-May 25, 1981)
    Born in Kinder, Louisiana
Recorded the singles 'Good Rockin' Tonight' (1947), 'Rockin' at Midnight' (1949), 'Long About Midnight' (1949), 'Miss Fanny Brown' (1949), 'Boogie at Midnight' (1949), 'Hard Luck Blues' (1950), 'Love Don't Love Nobody' (1950), 'Bar Room Blues' (1951), and 'Let the Four Winds Blow' (1957)
Inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame (1981)

Why he might be annoying:

He was turned down by the military during World War II for having flat feet.
'Let the Four Winds Blow' was the only one of his songs to crossover to the pop Top 40.
He went to jail for tax evasion (1960).
He left music during the 1960s to become a door-to-door encyclopedia salesman.

Why he might not be annoying:

His pleading vocal style influenced Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and James Brown.
'Good Rockin' Tonight' (either his original or Wynonie Harris' cover version) is a contender for the title of 'first rock and roll record.'
He successfully sued King Records for unpaid royalties (1952) -- after which his hits suddenly dried up, fueling suspicion he had been blacklisted by the label.
He launched a comeback performing with the Johnny Otis Revue at the Monterey Jazz Festival (1970).
He performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival a month before his death.
