    He went by a shortened version of his middle name.
    His hard-charging style of play caused him to miss significant time due to injuries.
    He intentionally threw a bat at an opposing pitcher in his direction out of protest, and tried to pass it off to the umpires that it slipped out of his hands (2002).
    He was suspended four games and fined $2,000 as a result of the stunt.
    He earned notoriety after he caught a pop fly and threw the ball into the stands; the problem was it wasn't the final out of the inning and his blunder allowed the Angels to score three runs in a comeback victory (2003).

    He hit the go-ahead runs in the deciding game that secured the Red Sox their first World Series title in 86 years.
    He was a fan favorite in Boston, who embraced his gritty style of play and dedication to the Red Sox.
