Why they might be annoying:

They auditioned for Jackie Wilson's manager but were turned down for being too much like the Platters.
Although they were the first act signed to Motown, it took over a decade before they had a #1 hit.
Smokey Robinson's voice was so high that when he came down with the flu during a tour, his wife Claudette sang in his place until he recovered.
Although Smokey was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the rest of the group was left out.

Why they might not be annoying:

They were the first Motown act to have a million seller, to appear on American Bandstand and to have a #1 hit in Britain.
Smokey Robinson , Bobby Rogers, Ronnie Wihte and Pete Moore all wrote hits, both for the Miracles and for other Motown artists.
Most observers thought the group would fold when Smokey left; instead, they recorded the biggest hit of their career, 'Love Machine.'
