The Resume

    (May 9, 1960-June 16, 2014)
    San Diego Padres' Outfielder
    ESPN Analyst
Batted .338 and amassed 3,141 hits
Winner of five gold gloves and eight batting titles
Announced he had cancer of the salivary gland (October 8, 2010)

Why he might be annoying:

He was the final out of the 1984 World Series.
Analysts criticized him for being overweight.
He believed that chewing tobacco led to his cancer.
Despite his accomplishments, he is not even considered the best San Diego product, because of Ted Williams.

Why he might not be annoying:

His middle name was Keith, the same as Team Annoy's tech guy.
He was one of baseball's good guys.
    He was left handed.
He was named Northwest League Most Valuable Player in 1981, the same year the Clippers drafted him in the 10th round of the NBA draft.
He chose playing baseball for the Padres' organization over playing for the Clippers.
His brother, Chris Gwynn, played for the Dodgers, Royals, and Padres.
His son, Anthony Gwynn, was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 39th pick in the 2003 draft, two picks before San Diego could select him.
The Padres' records for hits, stolen bases, doubles, triples, runs batted in, runs scored, and batting average all belonged to him.
In 1994, he had a batting average of .394 and could have averaged .400 if the strike didn't shorten the season.
Pete Rose told him, 'Don't catch me in one night' and then shook his hand after Gwynn's first major-league hit.
Even though the Padres' had two fire sales in which they let go or traded the likes of Gary Sheffield, Kevin Brown, Benito Santiago, Fred McGriff and Roberto Alomar, Jr. in their prime, Tony remained loyal to the fans and organization and spent his entire twenty year career in San Diego.
