Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He hated his nickname, which was given for his resemblance to boxer Luis Firpo.
He had 14 teeth removed, thinking it would cure his sore arm. (Since he pitched in only six more games, it presumably did not work.)
Many of his accomplishments were not recognized until the 1960s, when the save was created as a pitching statistic.

Why he might not be annoying:

He played a crucial role in getting the Senators to their first ever World Series appearance (1924).
He led the AL in saves five times (1924-26,1929,1932).
He was the first pitcher with 20 saves in a season and 100 saves in a career.
He was married to Mattie Womack for 53 years until his death.
He continued pitching in old-timers' games even after losing his left arm in a 1949 car crash.
