Why they might be annoying:

Exactly where they got the name from is a mystery.
Many people believe the name was taken from televangelist Jimmy Swaggart's book 'Music: The New Pornography.'
Their song, 'Letter From An Occupant,' was featured in the film, 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.'

Why they might not be annoying:

All of the members of the New Pornographers have successful side projects. Neko Case is recognized as one of the best vocalists of today, AC Newman recorded an album that was called one of the best of 2004 and is a member of other indie bands and Blaire Thurier is a cartoonist and film maker and created films for different festivals.
Their own label, 'Matador Records,' called their debut, 'Mass Romantic,' the most exciting record since The Pixies' 'Surfer Rosa.'
They were called a bunch of the most fun and friendliest people you could ever meet.
They believe one of the main reasons for success is having Neko Case as a guest vocalist on the albums.
The songs on the album seem like quirky pop fun but they successfully write in messages and beliefs, some political.
While performing at the 'South by Southwest Festival,' Ray Davies joined them onstage to perform 'Starstruck' for the first time without The Kinks.
Although still considered an underground power-pop band, Spin Magazine recognized 'Electric Version' as the #8 Best Album of 2003.
