He was in a lot of really bad b-movies after 'Gilligan.'
He often played 'authority' figures in films such as Sheriffs, Sergeants, and boat Skippers.
In a strange twist of irony he played a cook on an episode of 'Batman' named Gilligan.

Why he might not be annoying:

Unlike the other cast members on 'Gilligan's Island,' he enjoyed the image that the Skipper role on the show gave him.
He used his notoriety for charity.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II.
He died of cancer.
