Why he might be annoying:

He had the less-than-macho first name of Leslie.
Despite his eight Pro Bowl appearances, he was never even nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
To liven up the night shift of an endurance test at Riverside, he hired strippers to jump out naked next to the track along the turns and pretend to be hitchhiking (1967).

He was valedictorian of his class at UC Berkeley.
He served two years with the US Army in Korea.
The Rams traded 11 players to the New York Yanks get him, the largest deal for a single player.
He was described as second only to founder Bill France, Sr., when it came to NASCAR's rise to national prominence.
He was married to Marilyn Richter for 55 years until his death.
Pro Football may have snubbed him, but he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame (1982) and Motor Sports Hall of Fame (2009).
