She married, divorced and re-married Kurt Weill.
She retired from performing for five years after a badly reviewed performance (1945).
She sang in a high, wavering pitch with a strange contrast.
She had a mannish face.

Her father was an abusive alcoholic.
She fled Nazi Germany.
After Weill's death, she dedicated herself to promoting his music.
After she played Rosa Klebb, the villain with poison-tipped footwear in 'From Russia with Love,' she noted that the first thing people looked at when she met them were her shoes.
Louis Armstrong and Bobby Darin mention her in their versions of 'Mack the Knife.'
