Football Player

The Resume

    (January 22, 1955- )
    Born in Houston, Texas
Cornerback for the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders (1977-86)
    39 career interceptions
    Five-time Pro Bowler (1980-84)
NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1980)

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname 'Lester the Molester' would never fly today.
He said he became 'a mere mortal' when the NFL banned Stickum after the 1980 season, never again recording more than four interceptions in a season.
Unlike most players who would dab Stickum on their fingers, he would slather it over his arms and uniform.
Teammate Ted Hendricks noted about the results, 'You practically had to pry the ball loose whenever he got his hands on it.'
He was known for punching receivers in the throat -- to the point that some opponents wore extra-long facemasks when playing the Raiders.

Why he might not be annoying:

He and Mike Haynes were one of the most dominant cornerback pairs in NFL history.
His 13 interceptions in 1980 is second only to Dick 'Night Train' Lane's 14 in 1952.
Despite his 'mere mortal' quip, he still made four Pro Bowls after Stickum was banned.
He was a 'Star Wars' fan who called himself 'the only true jedi' in the NFL.
He celebrated his 29th birthday with a victory in Super Bowl XVIII.
