The Resume

    (October 18, 1947-September 19, 2022)
    Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Southwest Regional Representative for the Wilderness Society (1973-80)
Founding member of Earth First! (1980)
Wrote 'Ecodefense: A Field Guide to Monkeywrenching' (1985) and 'Confessions of an Eco-Warrior' (1991)

Why he might be annoying:

He enrolled in the Marine Corps' Office Candidate School, spent 31 days in the brig for insubordination and going AWOL, and received an 'undesirable discharge' after two months (1968).
He advocated spiking trees, which had the potential to cause injury or death to loggers and sawmill workers.
'Outside' magazine called him 'arguably the most dangerous environmentalist in America.'
He said the US should not have provided food aid during the 1985-86 Ethiopian famine, but should have 'let nature seek her own balance.'
He was arrested for conspiracy to destroy government property (1990), which allegedly included plans to sabotage power lines, water pumps, and nuclear power plants.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a teacher on a Zuni reservation.
While trying to block a logging road, he was knocked down and dragged by a truck (1990).
Michael Fain, an FBI agent who had infiltrated Earth First, was taped saying that Foreman was not involved in the sabotage campaign but needed to be 'popped' (arrested and prosecuted) to send a message to radical environmentalists.
The case against him basically petered out, as he was allowed to plead guilty to a single misdemeanor (for providing two copies of 'Ecodefense' to Fain) and received a suspended sentence.
