TV Executive

The Resume

    (October 22, 1971- )
    Born in Newtown, Connecticut
Birth name is Christopher Andrew Licht
    Chairman/CEO of CNN (February 26, 2022-June 2023)
Executive producer of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (2015-22)
Wrote the book ‘What I Learned When I Almost Died: How a Maniac TV Producer Put Down His BlackBerry and Started to Live His Life’

Why he might be annoying:

He and Stephen Colbert decided to make an entire show out of the Late Show’s animated Trump segments and wear the joke out (hence Our Cartoon President).
He took over CNN after Jeff Zucker abruptly resigned over his failure to disclose a relationship with a network employee (February 26, 2022).
He was criticized for terminating the contracts of several long-time network correspondents including Brian Stelter and Jeffery Toobin.
He had an acrimonious working relationship with Don Lemon, which worsened over the year, and culminated with Lemon’s being demoted and eventually fired.
The start of his tenure as network head also saw him unplug the CNN+ streaming service less than a month after its initial launch (which some just see as him putting it out of its misery).
Amid tanking ratings, and failed revamps to both the morning and primetime lineups, he was fired as chairman/CEO of CNN (June 7, 2023).

Why he might not be annoying:

He has expressed a desire to move away from partisanship in news broadcasting.
He launched Morning Joe on MSNBC and the reboot of CBS This Morning.
His time with the latter show saw the series win a Peabody Award and three Emmy Awards.
He reined in CNN’s use of ‘Breaking News’ graphics, limiting them to stories that actually warrant them.
He met his wife while on assignment at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
He suffered a near-fatal cerebral hemorrhage, in 2010, and nearly died from it (his book details the experience).
