Vocalist

The Resume

    (November 28, 1940- )
    Born in Jacksonville, Texas
    Birth name was Bruce McMeans
Recorded the single ‘Hey! Baby’ (1962)

Why he might be annoying:

His last name is pronounced ‘shannel’ instead of ‘channel.’
    He was a one-hit wonder.
Critic Dave Marsh wrote about ‘Hey! Baby,’ ‘The production is cheesy, and the piano is as tacky as anything in the history of recorded sound.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He performed on the ‘Louisiana Hayride’ radio show in his teens.
’Hey! Baby’ hit #1 in the US and #2 in Britain.
John Lennon was apparently a fan, judging from the uncanny similarity of the harmonica parts on ‘Hey! Baby’ and the Beatles’ ‘Love Me Do.’
He settled in Nashville and wrote #1 country hits for Anne Murray, T.G. Sheppard and Jane Fricke.
He kept a sense of humor about his one-hit wonder status, sometimes introducing ‘Hey! Baby’ in concert with ‘And now, I’d like to do a medley of my hit.’
