Why he might be annoying:

    He goes by Chip instead of his birth name of William.
    He had a reputation of being a prima donna during his playing career.
    Some football pundits felt his Rookie of the Year victory was hollowed as a result of the strike shortened season.
    He nixed a trade to the Buffalo Bills, saying he would retire, rather then play there.
    He sat out the entire 1988 season as a result of a contract dispute.
    He was arrested for drug possession (1989).
    His drug addiction, along with his questionable off-field conduct played a role in the Chargers decision to trade him.
    He was charged with vehicular homicide, after he was involved in a head-on collision, killing the driver of the other vehicle instantly (1994).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a member of the USC team that won the national championship (1978).
    He earned Pro Bowl honors in four of his first five seasons.
    He was considered one of the anchors of the Browns defense during the 1970's.
    He was able to post solid numbers, despite the fact his career was plagued with off-field issues.
    He survived a shooting (August 15, 2020).
