The Resume

    (circa 1474-September 17, 1510)
Born in Castelfranco Veneta , Italy
Birth name was Giorgio Barbarelli da Castelfranco
Paintings include 'The Tempest,' 'Sleeping Venus,' 'The Castelfranco Madonna,' and 'The Three Philosophers'

Why he might be annoying:

Little is known about his life.
He signed only one of his paintings, making attribution difficult.
Further complicating matters, he left several paintings unfinished when he died and other artists were brought in to complete them.
Giorgio Vasari complained about his paintings, 'I, for my part, have never understood them, nor have I found, for all the inquiries I have made, anyone who understands them.'

Why he might not be annoying:

According to tradition, he was tall (his name translates as 'big George') and handsome.
He and Titian are considered founders of the Venetian school of Renaissance painting.
His 'Sleeping Venus' may be the first reclining nude in Western art.
As one of the first painters to depict the natural scenery in his works as more than a mere backdrop for the figures, he is often credited as the father of landscape art.
Vasari wrote that his paintings contained 'the greatest beauty and the greatest variety he could find.'
