Why Late Show with David Letterman might be annoying:

Tom Arnold was the first guest host to fill in for David Letterman due to a non-illness related absence ('Tired Ass Syndrome').
The show was primarily created after Dave got pissed about being passed over for being the new host for the Tonight Show.
They use a lot of irrelevant skits like throwing things off of a building or seeing how many people in costumes can be put inside a donut shop.
They relied heavily on top ten lists for a long time.
They beat NBC's 'Tonight Show' in the ratings until the mid 1990's, and never recovered.
Some feel that his 'Late Night' show on NBC was a lot more refreshing as it involved less Dave and more whacky guests.

Why Late Show with David Letterman might not be annoying:

The show continues to champion some of the same humor and skits established with 'Late Night' on NBC.
They won the rights to their running jokes and gags after NBC tried claiming ownership of them.
They returned to the airways six days after September 11, with an emotional Letterman stating in the opening monologue, 'We're told that they were zealots fueled by religious fervor... religious fervor... and if you live to be a thousand years old will that make any sense to you? Will that make any goddamn sense?'
The show frequently uses the crew members and neighboring businesses in comedy bits. It has made household names of Meg Parsont, Mujibar and Sirajul and Rupert Jee.
They have no problem with taking pot shots at their own network, CBS, and the company that owns it, Westinghouse.
Johnny Carson made a rare appearance on the show in the mid-1990's, causing an uproar of cheers.
It made the list of TV Guide's '50 Best Shows of All Time,' outranking 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson' (Jay Leno's Tonight Show failed to even make the list).
