Why Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan might be annoying:

Like their Canadian counterparts, many local residents refer to it as 'The Soo.'
It is overshadowed by the Canadian city across the river.
People who are unfamiliar with the region assume it is a single municipality.
It is isolated from most communities in the state of Michigan.
It has notoriously cold winters and extremely humid summers.
Due to its location near Lake Superior, it is prone to instability showers during the fall months.
As Fort Brady was built to prevent British fur traders from coming on American soil, due to the mass migration of people coming in from New England and New York, it developed a reputation of being bigoted towards Indigenous people.

Why Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan might not be annoying:

It is the second largest city in the Upper Peninsula.
It is home to the Soo Locks, which are located on the American side of the river.
It is home to the International 500 Snowmobile Race, which takes place every February.
Fort Brady is a historic site in the area.
Lake Superior State University is located here and is considered the smallest public university in Michigan.
If you are bored and have your passport, you can cross the bridge and go to the larger Soo.
