Why Fame (TV Series) might be annoying:

Alan Parker, who directed the movie 'Fame,' hated the series.
The character Montgomery McNeil was gay in the film but was made straight for the series.
Despite having the opening slot on a night NBC hyped as 'The Best Night of Television on Television!' (it was followed by Cheers, Night Court, and Hill Street Blues), the ratings were disappointing, leading NBC to cancel it after two seasons.
Janet Jackson joined in season four, but left before the season finished, saying she felt like 'an outcast' among the other cast members.
One version of the syndicated reruns cut out the musical numbers and the secondary plot to cram a one-hour show into a half-hour timeslot.

Why Fame (TV Series) might not be annoying:

Madonna auditioned unsuccessfully for the show.
It won Emmys for Direction of a Drama Series (1982), Choreography (1982-83), Art Direction (1982), Videotape Editing (1984-85) and Costumes (1987).
It was popular internationally, which is one of the reasons production continued after NBC cancelled the series.
Two songs from the series -- credited to 'The Kids from Fame' -- were top ten hits in the UK.
It paved the way for 'High School Musical' and Glee.
