The Resume

    (March 31, 1938-February 27, 2019)
    Born in St. Louis, Missouri
Played Rollo Lawson on Sanford and Son (1972-77)
Acted in 'Trouble Man (1972),' 'Willie Dynamite (1974)' and 'The Hunter (1980)'

Why he might be annoying:

He was sometimes billed as Jitahadi.
He got in to audition for 'Sanford and Son' by claiming to be a telephone repairman.
He didn't get along with Demond Wilson on the set of 'Sanford' despite playing best friends.
He was arrested and booked on burglary charges of over $200,000 worth in computers and typewriters (1986).
The 14-minute documentary short on his life - 'Auditioning for Nathaniel' - is unavailable to be viewed on any platform.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Marine Corps.
He was a fan favorite among viewers of 'Sanford and Son.'
The phrase 'Ain't You Rita Lawson's Boy' became a popular catchphrase.
He was the subject of unflattering jokes at the 2004 BET Comedy Awards.
He is famous for his deadpan reaction to Fred Sanford's various jabs and insults but in real life was good friends with Redd Foxx (he was the only cast member to feature on both of Foxx's subsequent projects: 'Sanford' and 'The Red Foxx Show').
He had a role as Fred Berry's shifty brother-in-law Ike on What's Happening!! - which would have been a series regular had the show not been canceled.
After he stopped acting, he opened a performing arts studio for young actors.
