Why he might be annoying:

His last name is a joke in and of itself.
He described his own voice as one that 'never quite made it through puberty.'
He was going to be a minister but the acting bug superseded.
He tried out as Roy Rogers's sidekick but didn't make it, so Autry snatched him up.
In his first few movies with Autry his character had different names, but later he went by the 'original' character name Pat Buttram.
His first movie without Autry was with Elvis in 1961, and he went uncredited.

Why he might not be annoying:

At 18, he visited the Chicago World's Fair and was interviewed by a disk jockey as a 'typical southern visitor.'
His observations were so laugh inducing the station hired him as a regular for their 'WLS National Barn Dance' program.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After CBS ended 'Green Acres' in 1971, he famously quoted that was the year Fred Silverman 'canceled everything with a tree - including Lassie.
He guest starred in 'The Munsters,' ' Adam 12,' 'Love: American Style,' ' Knight Rider' and 'Who's the Boss?.'
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He once said of his friend, co-star and self-made millionaire, 'Gene Autry used to ride off into the sunset. Now he owns it.'
