Why he might be annoying:

To avoid the draft in WWII, he declared himself a 'resident alien,' based on his birth in Argentina.
That decision came back to bite him in the ass when he traveled to Hawaii (when it was still a territory rather than a state) without notifying immigration authorities, who nearly deported him to Argentina when he tried to return to the mainland US (1953).
He was married six times, divorced five times.
His last wife had separated from him, but he died before she finished filing for divorce.
Ex-wife Rita Hayworth claimed he beat her.
He got into deep financial trouble, owing back taxes to the IRS and alimony and child support to several ex-wives.
He filed for bankruptcy, with $9 in his bank account and debts over $500,000 (1960).

Why he might not be annoying:

He had one of the best baritones in pop music.
In the 40s, Frank Sinatra considered Haymes his greatest rival.
He was a frequent volunteer for the USO during WWII.
He believed the attempt to deport him was engineered by Columbia Pictures mogul Harry Cohn in an effort to break up his romance with Rita Hayworth.
On his last recordings, made a year before his death, his voice sounded just as good as it did on his 40s hits.
He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for records and radio.
