Their coach Pat Quinn began the tournament using Curtis Joseph as the starting goalie before Joseph's inability to hold onto a lead cost him the job.
Ed Belfour never played a single game.
Their gold medal victory can be credited to the fact they had an NHL all-star roster.
Many fans and pundits alike claim that a Canadian loonie planted at center ice was instrumental in the team's gold medal victory.
Prior to this victory, many hockey pundits were questioning the country's commitment to international hockey programs.
Some felt that Theoren Fleury should not have been on the team because of his volatile behavior.

Why they might not be annoying:

They ended a 50 year gold medal drought.
Wayne Gretzky selected the team, basing it on speed and skill over grit.
Many credit Gretzky for lighting a fire under the team, which helped them become dominant during the rest of the tournament.
Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan joined Ken Morrow in becoming the second and third players to win an Olympic gold medal and a Stanley Cup in the same season.
Martin Brodeur played his best hockey during the later stages of the tournament.
Their female counterparts won the gold medal, which made Canada the first nation to win gold in both men's and women's competitions.
