Why they might be annoying:

    They are a pop-punk group.
    They frequently appear on MTV.
They got their name from a children's book.
Joel has an irritating, high-pitched singing voice.
The fan base is dominated by teenyboppers.
They are friends with Chris Kirkpatrick and Mandy Moore, who are fans of the band and have appeared in their music videos.
Many members have numerous tattoos and piercings.
Billy, Benji and Joel are vegetarians.

Why they might not be annoying:

Joel and Benji, identical twin brothers who before forming Good Charlotte never had any previous experiences with singing or playing instruments, decided to form a band after seeing the Beastie Boys in concert.
Joel and Benji's father abandoned them as teens, as they ended up living with the rest of their family in a farmhouse.
Thanks to their uneasy relationship with their father, the brothers refuse to use their last names. The other band members followed suit out of respect.
They are all Star Wars fans.
They performed at many benefit concerts.
Quote from Benji from the band's official bio: 'I don't think we're better than any other band, although I do think we're more sincere, more real, than some of them. We want to be judged for what we're really doing, not put in a genre with a bunch of other bands with which we have nothing in common.'
