He was a child star.
There was a persistent rumor that he was killed in Vietnam, but this proved to be untrue.
It was also rumored that a look alike actor replaced him on the new 'Leave it to Beaver' TV series, which added to the 'Beaver killed in Nam' legend.
He is divorced.

Why he might not be annoying:

He grew up without any of the problems a lot of child stars face.
He remained good friends with his TV co-star Tony Dow.
He appeared with Dow in the 80s stage productions of 'Boeing, Boeing' and 'So Long, Stanley.'
He still appears in TV show guest appearances as 'The Beaver.'
