    His nickname was 'El Divino.'
    He smoked three packs of cigarettes a day.
    He was arrested for smuggling Cuban cigars into Spain (1920).
    He was kicked out of a game during the 1920 Summer Olympics after he punched an opponent during play.
    He was suspended for the 1922 season, after he lied to Spanish tax authorities about the signing fee he received when he transferred back to RCD Espanyol.
    His political views were suspect, as he rejected Catalan nationalism, despite the fact he played for Catalan XI.

    He was considered one of the greatest goaltenders of his generation by soccer pundits.
    His last minute save against FC Barcelona in the 1936 Copa del Rey Final ranks among one of the greatest soccer moments in Spanish history.
    He was a member of the Spanish soccer team that won the silver medal at the 1922 Olympics.
    He earned the Great Cross of the Order of Cisneros award.
    He has an award named in his honor, which is given to the goaltender who records the lowest goals-to-games ratio in a season.
