Mayor

The Resume

    (September 1, 1960- )
    Born in Brownsville, New York
    Middle name is Leroy
Former New York City Police Captain
Borough President of Brooklyn (took office January 1, 2014)
Member of the New York State Senate from the 20th district (January 1, 2007 – December 31, 2013)
Elected May of New York City (November 2, 2021)
    Democrat

Why he might be annoying:

He refers to himself in third person.
His New York residency has been disputed.
He was a Democrat who switched his affiliation to Republican in 1997, and then back to Democrat in 2001.
He has gone on record stating that being in politics has been good for his dating life (he's single).
He was criticized for suggesting that Puerto Rican-born politician Herman Badillo should have married a Latina instead of a white, Jewish woman (1993).
He has been repeatedly criticized for parking illegally and allowing his staff to do so as well.
He responded to criticism on Twitter over his abuse of parking placards by tweeting: 'Not sure of what you are talking about but the greatest level of fear is reflected in people who hide their faces while throwing insults. My life work speaks of my courage. Your hidden face is in the tradition of others who hid themselves with white hoods' (harsh).

Why he might not be annoying:

When he was 15, he was beaten while in police custody.
He claims the experience sparked his desire to become a police officer and change the department from within.
He was a first responder at the World Trade Center site during the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
He was a vocal opponent of the NYPD's 'stop and frisk' policy under Michael Bloomberg, arguing that it predominantly affected young black and Latino men.
He became a vegan after his diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.
He ran for Mayor on a law-and-order platform, rejecting the #DefundPolice movement (although he is supportive of police reform).
He is the first African American to hold the position of Brooklyn Borough President, and is only the second African-American to be elected Mayor of New York City.
