The Resume

    (January 13, 2015-April 7, 2020)
    Aired on CBC
Left to right: Annie Murphy as Alexis Rose, Eugene Levy as Johnny Rose, Catherine O’Hara as Moira Rose, and Daniel Levy as David Rose
Also with Chris Elliott as Roland Schitt and Emily Hampshire as Stevie Budd
Created by Eugene, Daniel, & Fred Levy
Premise: The riches-to-rags adventures of a defrauded video store magnate, his diva wife, their two grown kids, and their subsequent move to a small town representing their only remaining asset

Why Schitt's Creek might be annoying:

Intentional or not, the title features a homonym for poo.
It is actually stylized as ‘Schitt’$ Creek,’ named for the mullet-haired town mayor played by Elliott.
In the unaired pilot, Elliott’s real-life daughter Abby played Alexis — but had other commitments when the series was picked up.
During its development, the Levys were forced to prove the legitimacy of the vulgar-sounding name proposed for their original title. (They brought in some copied phone book pages to make their point.)
Highly unusual for any depiction of the boonies, which usually show a gradual acceptance, homophobia was never any issue to the Creek (with David as a pansexual, or omnisexual).

Why Schitt's Creek might not be annoying:

Dan Levy (Eugene’s real-life son) got the idea in part from the frequent depiction of wealthy and sometimes snobbish American dynasties.
Sarah Levy (Eugene’s real-life daughter) had a recurring role as an offbeat coffee shop waitress.
Rare for any series of its kind, and especially in the new millennium, its ratings increased with the seasons until the fifth.
Over at Rotten Tomatoes, only the first and third seasons failed to achieve a 100 percent approval rating.
Not until it began streaming on Netflix did it become a bona fide hit.
