The Resume

    (February 18, 1934-July 22, 2017)
Born in Washington, District of Columbia
Led the band Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers
Recorded the single ‘Does Your Mama Know About Me?’ (1968)

Why he might be annoying:

His band was (briefly) called Four Niggers and a Chink (usually abbreviated to ‘Four N’s and a C’ on marquees).
    He was a one-hit wonder.
He falsely claimed that Jimi Hendrix was a member of his backing band – until he fired him for taking up too much time with his guitar solos.
He owned a pet lion that he kept in his apartment. (He eventually gave it to an animal shelter)
After David Ruffin left the Temptations, he auditioned to be his replacement but was turned down in favor of Dennis Edwards.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was of African-American, Puerto Rican and Native American heritage.
He was a cook in the Army during the Korean War.
Tommy Chong was one of the Vancouvers before becoming a comedian.
He brought the Jackson 5 to the attention of Motown Records, but was denied credit so Berry Gordy could promote the myth that Diana Ross had discovered the group.
He produced most of the Jackson 5’s first album, but was fired after he refused to go along with Gordy’s decision to have them record bubblegum pop songs.
