The Resume

    (July 5, 1951- )
    1972 Heisman Trophy winner
    Played for the Nebraska Cornhuskers
Wide receiver, Montreal Alouettes, 1973-76; San Diego Chargers, 1977-78
National Collegiate Hall of Fame honoree (1997)

Why he might be annoying:

At fourteen he stole his uncle's car, drove to Detroit and lived on the streets for several months.
He fathered several children out of wedlock.
In his freshman year, along with his friends, he held up a gas station in Lincoln as a 'prank.' The prank almost put him in prison.
He wanted to leave Nebraska for California, but USC's coach John McKay refused to offer him a scholarship.
He went to the Montreal Alouettes instead of the San Diego Chargers, who had drafted him in the first round.
He pulled a gun on a cable installer who was going to disconnect his grandmother's cable service.
During a bankruptcy trial, he put his Heisman trophy on the courtroom table.
There are countless whiskey decanters in Nebraska that bear his image.

Why he might not be annoying:

His nickname was 'Johnny the Jet.'
His childhood was a nightmare, and he used sports to get out of the Omaha ghettos.
During his freshman year at Nebraska, he had to identify his great-grandmother's body after she had been stabbed to death.
He was fairly punished for participating in the robbery, and regrets his participation to this day.
His punt return in the 1971 Nebraska-Oklahoma 'Game of the Century' has been called the most exciting play in college football history.
He is continually mentioned as one of college football's greatest players.
He was a star for four years with the Alouettes, but knee and hamstring injuries ruined his attempt at an NFL career.
He went back to Nebraska and earned his bachelor's degree in 1997, with the help of his former position coach Tom Osborne.
His son Terry was on the verge of being a star at Nebraska when he suffered a career-ending knee injury.
He straightened out his life to become a respected businessman.
