(1947), 'Raw Deal' (1948), 'Border Incident' (1949), 'Winchester '73' (1950), 'Bend of the River' (1953), 'The Naked Spur' (1953), 'The Glenn Miller Story' (1954), 'The Man from Laramie' (1955), 'Man of the West' (1958), 'Cimarron' (1960), 'El Cid' (1961), 'The Fall of the Roman Empire' (1964), and 'A Dandy in Aspic' (1968)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was married three times, divorced twice.
    He was never nominated for an Academy Award.
    He was fired by star/producer Kirk Douglas early during filming of 'Spartacus' and was replaced by Stanley Kubrick.
    'The Fall of the Roman Empire' lost so much money that it bankrupted produced Samuel Bronstein.
    He died during production of 'A Dandy in Aspic' and filming had to be completed by star Laurence Harvey.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He worked for David O. Selznick, supervising screen tests for 'Gone with the Wind' (1939) and 'Rebecca' (1940).
    He revived James Stewart's faltering career with 'Winchester '73'; Stewart would star in another seven of his films.
    He was head of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival (1964)
    Encyclopedia Britannica called him 'the kind of director auteurists love.'
    His work was admired by Martin Scorsese, Jean-Luc Godard, and Wim Wenders.
