Born and raised in Anatolia (ancient name for Turkey)
Name was Mithridates VI Eupator Dionysus
King of the small coastal province of Pontus
Fought three wars against the expanding Roman Republic, known as the Mithridatic Wars (from 88-84 BC, 83-81 BC, and 75-65 BC)

Why he might be annoying:

He ran away from home in his early teens.
When he returned home several years later, he imprisoned his own mother (the reigning queen). He killed his brothers and married his sister (115 BC).
Since his youth, he ingested small doses of poison to develop immunity, if anyone tried to poison his dinners.
When it became apparent he was losing the third war with Rome, he ironically tried to poison himself. When that didn’t work, he chose to use his own sword.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had an excellent memory.
He spoke Persian and several dialects of Greek.
His mother may have attempted to kill him. This may be why he ran away from home.
He nearly succeeded in ending Roman rule in Anatolia.
He was the inspiration for one of Mozart’s earliest operas, ‘Mithridates, King of Pontus.’
