The Resume

    (November 3, 1960- )
    Born in Butte, Montana
    Adjutant General of Montana (2008-12)
    Lieutenant Governor of Montana (2013-14)
Appointed to fill the seat of retiring Senator Max Baucus (February 9, 2014)
Won the Democratic primary election for the seat (June 3, 2014)
Announced his withdrawal from the general election (August 7, 2014)

Why he might be annoying:

An Army Inspector General report accused him of using his position as Adjutant General to pressure subordinates to join the National Guard Association of the United States and thus enhance his candidacy for Vice President of the NGAUS (2010).
His campaign claimed he had survived 'hundreds of IED [improvised explosive device] explosions,' then clarified that the figure applied to his unit, not him personally.
The New York Times discovered that about two-thirds of a strategy research paper that he had submitted to receive a masters degree from the Army War College had been plagiarized.
He tried to claim the plagiarism was 'unintentional.'
He then said, 'I don't want to blame my mistakes on PTSD [post-traumatic stress disorder], but I do want to say it may have been a factor.'
The Washington Post called his reactions a textbook example of 'how not to respond to a political scandal.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Montana Army National Guard for 33 years (1979-2012).
He led the operations of 2,000 Guard members in fighting Montana wildfires (2000).
He led the 1st Battalion of the 163rd Infantry Regiment in combat in Iraq, earning a Bronze Star.
He did survive one IED explosion in Iraq.
Judging from his 'I'm not blaming PTSD, but it played a role' statement, he would have fit right into Congress.
