He overcame a tragic childhood, which saw him spend frequent time in homeless shelters.
He was adopted by former Detroit Lions player Roosevelt Barnes, who was credited with his transformation from battling obesity to pursuing an athletic career.
He majored in education at Purdue University.
He set a new Purdue single season record for double doubles recorded in a single season (4 in 2016-17).
He wore #50 in honor of his biological father, who passed away at the age of 50.
