Why he might be annoying:

His nicknames include 'Southern Boy' and 'The One.'
He received more attention from the American public as the subject of a Mark Wahlberg movie than he did when he was awarded the Navy Cross and Purple Heart.
He has been accused of downplaying the role of Medal of Honor winner, Lt. Michael Murphy, in his book's account of Operation Red Wing, by Murphy's parents.
His tense reaction to a question leveled by Jake Tapper, in a CNN interview, about whether or not Operation Red Wing was 'senseless' went viral on YouTube, with either detractors calling him an abrasive asshole or supporters attacking Tapper as un-American and elitist (Jan. 11, 2015).
At the height of the controversy over released POW Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, he appeared on Glenn Beck to call Bergdahl a 'joker' who cozied up to the Taliban, further saying 'Heaven help that kid if he's not a deserter' (Jun. 5, 2014).
He posted on his Twitter feed after the murder conviction of Chris Kyle killer, Eddie Ray Routh, 'you thought you had PTSD before. ?? Wait till the boys in TDC find out you killed a TX hero' - make of it what you will... (Feb. 25, 2015) .

Why he might not be annoying:

His response to Jake Tapper seemed less a negative reaction to Tapper than a response to a potential PTSD trigger.
He declines to take partisan shots at President Obama when making appearances on FOX .
He remains close with Mohammad Gulab, the Afghani villager who saved his life, and worked to attain asylum for Gulab and his family.
He was close friends with Chris Kyle and his family years prior to his untimely death, and defended his posthumous memory from 'American Sniper' detractors.
His service dog, DASY, was shot on his own property by four men at 1am in the morning, adding to the trauma of a returning vet's PTSD (Apr. 2009).
The assailants were found guilty of animal cruelty, but were not given the maximum sentence of two years, but were given five years probation (Mar. 2012).
He witnessed all three of his SEAL teammates die brutally, with one even dying in his arms. He was also shot in the back at least once.
Not only were his fellow soldiers killed, but 16 Special Ops Aviators/SEALS were killed when the Taliban shot down their MH-47 Chinook helicopter in a botched rescue attempt.
He underwent numerous hand/back reconstruction surgeries for the injuries he sustained from the attacks (torn shoulder, broken nose, seared skin, cracked pelvis, blown out knees, macillofacial damage, paralysis below the waist, and a severed tongue).
Shockingly, he returned to duty for service in Ramadi, Iraq only to have his knees blown out and his spine fractured again during a raid, forcing his retirement (2006).
Although he refrains from taking policy stances, during an appearance on Anderson Cooper, he criticized the White House for not inviting the families of the soldiers who died looking for Bergdahl to the Rose Garden Announcement of his release (June 6, 2014).
He also remarked in a separate interview when asked about the Veterans Affairs Dept. scandal, 'if you had to put people, senators — if they had to go for their VA to get care, it would probably get fixed' (21 May 2014).
He said of Eddie Ray Routh, 'having PTSD is not a straight line to commit murder [or] breaking the law. Because if it is, basically you’re saying... I can go out and slap somebody around all I want and when the cops show up I can claim I am a veteran and I got PTSD. That’s not how that works' (Feb. 25, 2015).
