Why he might be annoying:

After the Pozo-Seco Singers broke up, he temporarily quit the music biz and sold furniture with his father-in-law.
Despite numerous country hits, 'I Believe in You' was his only solo single to cross over to the pop Top 40 (1980).
He changed record labels eleven times.
He announced his retirement from touring in 2010 and rescinded two years later.
He smokes, and was often seen holding a cigarette in his hand in his promotional photos.

Why he might not be annoying:

His smooth baritone voice made his music popular with listeners.
He performed in various bands during his teenage years, prior to branching out as a solo artist.
Over a seventeen year period (1974-91), he released 46 singles and only four did not make the country Top 10.
Many modern country artists consider him to be one of their strongest musical influences.
His songs recorded a strong following worldwide.
