The Resume

    (June 30, 1893-September 21, 1964)
    Born in Bolton, Mississippi
    Birth name was Armenter Chatmon
    Member of the Mississippi Sheikhs
With the Sheikhs recorded ‘Sitting on Top of the World’ and ‘Stop and Listen Blues’
Solo recorded the songs ‘Ram Rod Daddy,’ ‘Please Warm My Weiner,’ ‘Banana in Your Fruit Basket,’ ‘Let Me Roll Your Lemon,’ ‘Your Biscuits Are Big Enough for Me,’ and ‘My Pencil Won’t Write No More’

Why he might be annoying:

His birth year has also been given as 1892 and 1894.
One blues historian dismissed most of his output as ‘trite pornographic ditties.’
He tried to make a comeback in the 1950s, auditioning for an independent label in Jackson, Mississippi, but was turned down, partly because his material was no longer in fashion, partly because his voice had deteriorated.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father had been a slave.
He performed in the Mississippi Sheikhs with his brothers Lonnie and Sam (who both kept the name Chatmon) and also served as the band’s manager.
His guitar parts were described as ‘perhaps the most challenging of any country blues artist.’
He recorded the original version of the blues and folk standard ‘Corinne, Corinna.’ (1928)
He continued recording and performing even as he was losing his eyesight to cataracts.
