Star of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's film 'Son of God' (2014)
Acted in 'Amo-te, Teresa,' 'Teorema de Pitagoras,' 'The Forest,' 'The Italian Writer,' 'O Crime do Padre Amaro,' 'Star-Crossed,' 'Miami Blue,' 'Virados do Avesso,' 'O Matador,' and 'A Teia de Gelo'

Why he might be annoying:

He is a daytime soap metrosexual.
His name is sometimes misspelled 'Diego.'
Heavy.com called him 'a religious heartthrob.'
The news of his being cast as Jesus sparked the trending hashtag #HotJesus.
The attention surrounding his looks led many skeptics to argue that he was 'too sexy' to play the religious icon (um - hello...?)
He took part in the spin-off film from 'The Bible,' even though a majority of 'Son of God' was comprised of extracted clips from the original miniseries (or previously unseen/unused scenes cut from the original).
Although he attained a strong public following for doing the role, critical reviews of his performance were generally mixed (when the mini-series and film themselves weren't being outright panned as 'dull,' 'heavy-handed,' and 'superficial').
'Jesus' opted out of his contract to reprise his role in 'A.D. The Bible Continues' so he could portray 'The Man' (aka Satan) in 'The Messengers' the next year (he was replaced by Juan Pablo Di Pace).

Why he might not be annoying:

He is fluent in French, Spanish and English, in addition to his native Portuguese.
    He's a Chris Soules lookalike.
He started out at the age of fourteen, working as a local film extra.
He was named one of GQ Portugal's 'Men of the Year' (2013).
His breakthrough role was as Miguel in 'Amo-Te, Teresa,' which - as of 2017 - remains Portugal's highest-rated telefilm.
He received an Imagen Foundation Award nomination for 'Son of God' (2014).
He is the first Latin actor to play Jesus in an English-language production.
He commented on the #HotJesus controversy diplomatically, saying: 'It’s a compliment, obviously, but I don’t want that to take away from what we tried to achieve ... If the message of Jesus was love, hope and compassion, and I can bring that to more people by being a more appealing Jesus, I am happy with that.'
